TOBACCO PRIDE
After the Tobacco buyout of 2004, Sharp Farms, Inc. seized the free-market opportunity to expand its tobacco acreage. Tobacco production has migrated from all over the Southeastern United States to here in Eastern North Carolina. Wilson County continues to be the hub of U.S. flue-cured tobacco production and marketing. Currently, Sharp Farms grows over 700 acres of tobacco and markets 2.0 million pounds annually. This is about 1/2 of 1% of all the flue-cured tobacco grown in the United States.
